Raising Funds for the Special Olympics of Orange County


The Newport Beach Police Association and Newport Beach Police Association Charitable Foundation partnered to help raise funds for the Special Olympics of Orange County. The Police Department's mounted unit was on hand to lead the Unity Walk, followed by the Newport Beach Mayor and Police Chief. It was a pleasure spending the evening with many Special Olympics Athletes, even though our team did not win the mini hoop shoot out!

Officer Calms Nervous Child

We love the viral video from HeartThreads that tells the story of a Texas police officer calming down a nervous child. He let the boy sit in his patrol car and gave him a tour of the police department. The best part? That boy wants to be a police officer when he grows up now! Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics

We enjoyed participating in the Law Enforcement Torch Run for the Special Olympics of Southern California this morning! We recently sponsored their Mini-Hoop Shoot Challenge in our community and were excited to support them in this. The LETR is the largest grassroots fundraising and awareness event for the Special Olympics in which law enforcement officers and volunteers carry the "Flame of Hope" across nearly 900 miles. Thanks to anyone who cheered us on or waved as we carried the torch!

 NEWPORT BEACH – An 81-year-old pedestrian was killed and a driver suspected of DUI was taken into custody after a crash along Pacific Coast Highway Thursday night, police said.The crash occurred near Morning Canyon in Corona del Mar about 9:30 p.m., said Sgt. Man, child fled from crash into Newport Starbucks

NEWPORT BEACH – A man crashed into a Starbucks shop Thursday night, then fled while holding a small child, officials said. Newport Beach police said they arrested Johnny Miguel Martinez, 33, of Tustin, as a suspect in the crash. Newport Beach Rape Case Starts

2e1ax timeless entry newport3-26Trial began Tuesday March 17, for a man charged with sexually assaulting two women in Irvine and Newport Beach.

Travis Dewayne Batten, Jr., 31, of Irvine, was arrested in 2011 in connection with the 2005 sexual assault of one woman in Newport Beach and two in Irvine. The Irvine attacks happened in 2006, and 2010, Irvine police said at the time of the arrest.

The Orange County District Attorney's office, however, is no longer charging Batten with the 2010 assault.

Both the president and vice president of the Newport Beach Police Association attended and supported the SMA's golf tournament. While the Newport Beach Police Association members did not win the tournament, they had a wonderful time supporting a worthy cause and took home 1st prize for the Long Drive! It was a beautiful day with wonderful people for an amazing cause.

NBPD Makes History At Baker To Vegas Race

2e1ax timeless frontpage npbab2vFor the ninth year in a row, the Newport Beach Police Department's Running Team placed first in their category at the Baker to Vegas 120-Mile Challenge Cup Relay. Running teams from approximately 270-law enforcement agencies from around the world competed in the 29th annual relay that was held last weekend, April 13th and 14th. The Newport Beach team has placed first in its category eleven times in the last twelve years. This year, the team placed 1st in the 150 Division and 10th overall. This is the first time in the history of the race that a team in the 150 Division has broken into the Top 10.

Card and/or board games, such as Monopoly or UNO, are being collected in the lobby of the Newport Beach Police Department, 870 Santa Barbara Dr., through Friday, March 22. A large, gift-wrapped "Miracles for Kids" collection box is located just inside the front doors.

Funeral For Sheriff's Detective Jeremiah MacKay Is Today In NW San Bernardino

2e1ax timeless frontpage jeremiahmackayThe funeral service for San Bernardino County sheriff's Detective Jeremiah MacKay, slain last week in a final confrontation with fugitive multimurder suspect and ex-LAPD officer Christopher Dorner, is today in northwest San Bernardino.

The service is planned to begin at 11 a.m. Thursday Feb. 21 at the San Manuel Amphitheatre, 2575 Glen Helen Parkway.

The procession beforehand, which will include hundreds of law enforcement, fire, and other public safety vehicles, is expected to take more than one hour to arrive at the venue, which may result in traffic delays on Interstate 15 and Interstate 215.

Chris Dorner, No Excuses

Since Chris Dorner posted his manifesto of grievances and murdered four people in his quest to "clear his name", some in the public, including the media have given him an undeserved folk hero status. The thought process seems to be that since the LAPD has a history of racism, the actions he took to make the department "pay" are justified, including the murders of people with no ability to influence or control anything that happened to Dorner. It is a very disturbing look into the mindset and lack of moral cohesion among this group of people.
