From the Newport Beach PD Running Team:
As you know for the past couple of years we have chosen a charity to support and donate a portion of our funds raised on our road to get us to the Baker to Vegas Relay.
In May 2018, one of our own Officer Jon Jarema was diagnosed with a brain tumor. With his strength, courage, support of his amazing family and his awesome sense of humor, Jon has been fighting through radiation treatments, surgeries and continued chemotherapy. Jon was able to return back to full duty by September and continues his fight. We only thought it fitting to allow Jon to choose the supported charity for this year. Jon has chosen N.E.G.U “Never Ever Give Up” The Jessie Rees Foundation. The foundation was started in the name of a beautiful and strong little girl, Jessie Rees, who sadly lost her battle with two brain tumors on January 5th 2012 at the tender age of 12 years old. During her extremely courageous battle she chose to focus on helping kids with cancer that were unable to leave the hospital. That is how “Joy Jars” and N.E.G.U “Never Ever Give Up” were created. Joy Jars are 64 oz jars filled with toys that are delivered to children fighting cancer. Today, Joy Jars are symbols of hope and love in 40 different countries.
Along with our regular fundraising, we will be having a JoyDrive Carnival event on March 3rd at Irvine Terrace Park in Newport Beach raise funds and collect toys for the amazing Joy Jars. We are also taking toy donations leading up to the event that can be dropped off at the Newport Beach Police Station during normal station hours (9a-5p), the flyer attached has the list of acceptable toys. Please check out the links for more info on NEGU and our donation page.
